The Top Ranger program provides special recognition to boys who have shown exceptional achievement and progressthrough their participation in Royal Rangers, church, community and school. One young man will be selected to be theambassador or representative of Royal Rangers in the Northeast Region for the remainder of the calendar year. Theevaluation will take place at EMPOWER 17, the Northeast Region Royal Rangers Conference on January 28, 2017 in Harrisburg, PA. In order to be eligible, a boy must:

  • Be enrolled in grades 9 – 12 or be 15 to 17 years of age as of September 1, 2016.
  • Be a Chartered member of a Chartered Outpost.
  • Have earned the Gold Medal of Achievement.

Applications are due on December 31, 2016. The following will need to be submitted as a part of the application process:

  1. Completed application with signature from Outpost Coordinator and Pastor of Church.
  2. Application fee of $50 (includes EMPOWER 17 registration. $25 refund if not invited as a finalist).
  3. Three (3) references of Christian Character. Each reference letter can be a maximum of 1 page in length. Areference can be any non-family member (no immediate and nor extended family).
  4. Goals for relationship with God, Royal Rangers, and School (see goal sheets).
  5. Picture in utility uniform (patch or pin format). Picture should be a full color medium shot (from the waist up) ora medium close-up (somewhere between the shoulders and belt line up). Picture should be a 4”x6” or 5”x7” withthe applicants name on the back of the photo.
  6. Written Essay: Submit an essay on the Value of Royal Rangers in your life (Past, Present, and/or Future). Theessay is a maximum of 500 words.

After applications are submitted and reviewed, the Ranger will be notified whether or not they are a finalist for TopRanger. If a finalist, the Ranger will be required to attend the finalist evaluation at EMPOWER17 in order to be selectedas the Top Ranger. The evaluation will consist of the following:

  1. Uniform Inspection: A Utility Uniform is required. Either the pin or patch format uniform will be allowed. Aninspection form will be forwarded as a part of the notification as a finalist.
  2. Oral Presentation: The Ranger will be required to give a presentation in front of a panel. The topic of discussionwill be decided as a part of the notification as a finalist.
  3. Interview: The Ranger will be expected to answer age relevant questions based on the things that young men dealwith in today’s church and the world. General Royal Rangers information will also be tested.

One finalist will be presented as the 2017 Top Ranger. This award will be presented at the closing session ofEMPOWER17 on January 28, 2017. The winner will be a part of the Regional Staff and will be the main representativeof Boys throughout the Northeast Region. In addition, a scholarship will be provided for the Top Ranger ($1,000) and therunner-up ($100).
